Dal

1 cup yellow split peas, cooked in 3 cups of water
4 or 5 shallots, crushed
3 cloves of garlic, crushed
½ tsp black mustard seeds
½ tsp turmeric
1 tsp chilli powder (or less)
½ tsp salt
fresh coriander leaves to garnish
oil
Fry the mustard seeds in the oil until they pop. Add the shallots and garlic and fry until golden. Lower the heat and add the turmeric and chilli, being careful not to burn them. Add some of the dal to this and mix in well then add this back into the rest of the dal. Add a small handful of coriander leaves as a garnish.
