Apple and Currant Roly Poly

8oz apples
2 oz currants
2 oz sugar
½ tsp mixed spice
2oz beef suet
6 oz flour
Pinch of salt
½ tsp baking powder
Peel, core and chop the apples and mix together with the sugar and spice. Mince the suet finely and mix well with the flour, salt and baking powder. Add a little cold water to make a stiff dough. Roll this out to a thickness of about 5mm and spread the apple mixture on top. Wet the edges and roll up. Tie the roly poly in a cloth that has been wrung out in boiling water and floured. Boil gently for 1½ hours. Unwrap and serve with custard or cream.
